Tritton AX180 Universal Headset (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)

After using the standard Xbox 360 headset for about 6 years now, I decided it was well and truly time to upgrade my gaming headset. Having recently got a PS3 as well, I decided that I could not play online on the PS3 using my O2 bluetooth jabra headset as it was, in a nut-shell, complete garbage.

Anyway, after reading several reviews of different headsets and coming to the conclusion that a) I wasn’t going to spend £100+ on pair and b) they had to be universal – I decided to pick up a pair of the Tritton AX180’s.

Retail they sell for around £45 (Amazon, Game and Tesco), depending on where you purchase them, but I got these for a cool £30 in the end using some reward points.

New Gaming/AV Set-Up

Firstly, before I get started with the main post. I just want to say I hope you all had a very merry Christmas yesterday and I wish you all the best for 2012 when it arrives. It’s been a very busy month for me, with an increase in hours at work and trying to sort things out for Christmas, free-time has been very hard to find lately.  As a result of this, I have been a tad AWOL and I will try posting a lot of new stuff when I get the chance. Right, back on topic and please excuse my crappy Blackberry phone camera (it sucks !)…

After using a 22″ BenQ monitor for most of my gaming needs over the last 2-3 years, I have finally upgraded to something a little bigger and better. Due to working quite a lot this month and the fact I’ve been wanting to buy myself a nice flatscreen TV for a good while now, I took the plunge and upgraded my 22″ monitor to this…

LG 42LW650T: 42", Full HD 1080p, Cinema 3D, LEDplus TV

The LG 42LW650T: A 42″, full HD 1080p, cinema 3D, LEDplus TV (so glad there isn’t anymore D’s, B’s, P’s or HD’s involved in the description: ”Yeah I got a..wait for it… a 42 inch full 1080p, HD, 3D, LED, Freeview HD, MP3, USB, DVD, TV” – you get the idea).

But wait theres plenty more…

GTA III 10th Anniversary – Out Now for iOS & Android Devices

You will all probably remember my post about the upcoming GTA III game on iOS and Android device. Well, GTA 3: 10th Anniversary Edition has officially been launched on iOS and Android devices.

The 10th Anniversary edition is available from the Apple Store and Android market now for immediate download. The game is an exact replica of GTA 3 that was released on the Playstation 2 back in 2001. The iOS and Android version features: full touch screen optimised gameplay (obviously) and HD quality graphics. The game itself does include all the radio stations from back in the day as well, which is a nice touch (‘Pets-over-night.com – delivering little bundles of love, in a box, directly to your door’ – ring any bells? or what about the radio station ‘Chatterbox’ with lazlow – my personal favourite).

I wont be writing a review on the game itself as I don’t own any Apple or Android products at present. However, the only area I think that will take a bit getting used to, would be the controls, especially whilst in heated fire fights – there’s got to be a lot of ‘virtual button’ bashing done in order to survive.

I did find a great gameplay video over on YouTube of GTA 3 being played on the iPad 2 which I’ve embedded below , I recommend checking it out. Big thanks to TouchArcade for the video. Enjoy…

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update – 6th December 2011

As you may already be aware, Microsoft are updating the Xbox 36o dashboard tomorrow on the 6th of December. So we can pretty much all kiss goodbye to the old and welcome the brand new, totally revamped dashboard.

Microsoft have not confirmed an exact time for its release yet, but have confirmed it will be released at some point tomorrow. Everyone can expect an update as soon as you sign into Xbox Live, once the dashboard update is available.

The update brings a whole new look to the dashboard, having close similarities to the Metro design of Windows 8 and Windows 7 smartphones.

There will also be new streaming applications available for LOVEFiLM, 4OD and 5 on Demand and it will be possible to save games using the new cloud saving support function. Plus a lot more.

I will update this post tomorrow once I check the new dash out, but if you simply cannot wait that long, then I suggest reading through this in-depth review from Engadget, who cover a lot of areas of the new dashboard update in great detail.

If your an Xbox 360 user and download the new dashboard update tomorrow. Let me know what you think of it in the comments section below.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – First Impressions

The last couple of months has seen a few big-title game releases across many platforms. Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3, COD: MW3, Uncharted 3 and of course The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to name a few.

Whilst I’ve been trying to play most of them evenly (apart from Uncharted 3 as I don’t own a PS3), it has been quite a difficult task due to starting my new job. Serves me right for splashing out on all 4 games on the day each of them were released, but hey, at least I won’t have to buy any more games for quite some time now.

Anyway back to MW3. Due to buying Battlefield 3 a few days before hand I originally wasn’t going to pick up call of duty MW3 until after Christmas, but I did anyway. Just to clarify as well, this is no Battlefield fanboy bashing MW3. I own all the COD’s on the Xbox 360 (COD 4, WaW, MW2, BlackOps and MW3), the original Call of Duty on the PC and I also own Battlefield BC2/Vietnam and BF3.

Whilst I have only played the first mission in the MW3 campaign, I’ve tallied up around 8-9 hours of online multiplayer. Moral of the story, I’ve not really spent that much time with it, so MW3 may get better with time. The latter 5 words pretty much summing up what this article is going to relate to…

iOS 5 Update Sparks New Problems

iOS 5 had its first update last week that was put out by Apple to tackle a few bug fixes and improve the OS as a whole.

The 5.0.1 update had the following fixes/improvements in mind:

  • Improved Siri voice activation for Aussie users
  • Adds multi-tasking gestures for original iPad users
  • Resolves bugs with documents in the Cloud
  • Fixes bugs affecting battery life

Did the update solve the problem then ?

November News Update

As you could all probably see from the date of my last post, it’s been rather quiet on the news front over on iTech.

There are a couple of reasons behind this…

The motherboard I had in my PC we decided was getting replaced with a new one and so my PC was out of action for a few days. I’m thinking about putting money towards a new PC build early next year, so maxing out the PC I have just now is out of the question. However, the new motherboard we opted for was the ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe which we picked up for under £40. Nice little upgrade from the previous motherboard. The replacement MB was fitted last night, so my computer is back up and running at long last.

I also started a new job at Amazon so have been rather busy with that lately amongst trying to fit in some BF3, MW3 and Skyrim game-time. Skyrim has been dominating though and MW3 pretty much is just collecting dust at the moment.

Posts on iTech will be a lot more frequent now, with more content being added to all sections, as opposed to focusing purely on the gaming section. This doesn’t mean there will be no posts in the gaming section, it means I’m going to try add more into the other sections of the site first. Due to starting a new job I’m planning on scheduling future posts, so that even when I’m not at my PC, content will be published on the site. I’m also hoping to pick up the Hauppage DVR over Christmas so I can get some gameplay/tutorial videos uploaded to the site. Which pretty much means an iTech YouTube channel will be on its way very soon too.
